We generate fears while we sit. We overcome them by action.
– Dr. Henry Link
Meaning of this quote:
Inaction leads to self-doubt and fear, whereas action leads to courage and confidence. Fear can only be overcome through action rather than overthinking.
Understand that thinking about fears without taking action only multiplies them. Taking action without fear of failure or imperfection is the only way to overcome self-doubt.
We generate fears while we sit and aim for absolute zero failure with absolute perfection. When we expect perfection in each and every step, we are often prevented from taking any action at all.
Whenever we expect nothing but success, we generate fears. We overcome these obstacles when we understand that success and failure are just outcomes. A failure is an opportunity to learn from it and keep trying until the desired outcome is reached, isn’t it?
Whenever we fail to win a race in our favorite racing video game, are we not willing to keep trying?
There is only one thing that matters, and that is action
Thoughts cannot directly influence outcomes, but they can certainly influence actions. Moreover, actions can influence outcomes. It doesn’t matter whether we take action or not, the results will still occur. Nevertheless, if no action is taken, we cannot expect positive results.
When we sit and think about complex tasks, we generate anxiety. We overcome them when we begin the actual process of implementing them. Once we take action, all our worries begin to fade away.
Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.
– Babe Ruth
The most effective way to execute complex tasks is to plan them comprehensively and execute them. The worst way is to keep procrastinating complex tasks for fear of uncertain outcomes.
We fear uncertainty when we do something for the very first time. The only way to become familiar with the unfamiliar is to experience it. The more one challenges themselves with challenging tasks, the more resilient they become to uncertainty.
Aren’t we all prone to making mistakes when we try something new? Would we ever be able to learn new things if we conditioned ourselves to not make any mistakes? Were we able to learn how to walk if we had trained ourselves not to fall?
Uncertainty or challenges are a part of life. Anything we have never done or experienced before is challenging for us. Therefore, challenges and uncertainty are subjective. The challenges we face may not be the same for others.
There is nothing wrong with fear of uncertainty, however, it shouldn’t stop us from taking action. Because a lack of action is a certain way to bring negative outcomes. We are not limited by challenges, they are what make us limitless.
Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage.
